History Professor Martin Hershock, Ph.D., will talk about two new gardens on The University of Michigan-Dearborn campus.
Facebook post at (20+) 🌿 Restoring Native Voice at UM-Dearborn 🌿 CASL and the Environmental Interpretive Center, in partnership with local Indigenous communities, are reimagining how we tell our campus story. Led by Professor of History Marty Hershock and Professor of Geology & EIC Director Jacob Napieralski, this work honors Native contributions, uplifts Indigenous perspectives in environmental stewardship, and creates space for cultural placemaking on campus. Have you noticed the green changes across campus? Along with new signage, the team is collaborating with Native communities to bring cultural learning to life. Highlights include the Three Sisters and medicinal plant gardens (featured here), solstice programming, a new Native Cultural space, and expanded pollinator and wildflower gardens, all with UM-Dearborn students actively involved.
