Lisa Waud will talk about the planning and installation of the Flower House and her love of flowers and Detroit/Hamtramck.

The mission of the Flower House:

  • Sharing the flower house experience rooted in a love of art

  • Building an exhibition that brings visitors awe and joy

  • Creating an opportunity for florists to participate in an innovative floral installation

  • Pursuing a passion for sustainability and responsibility to American-grown flower farms

  • Showing respect for the City of Detroit’s history through the reuse of one abandoned house

  • Enriching as many lives as we can

In 2015, Lisa Waud turned an abandoned house in Hamtramck into a huge floral display and sold tickets to cover the cost of the house's planned demolition to make room for a park that was planted in early October of 2018. Her presentation is a heartwarming story of following a somewhat crazy dream, making it a reality, meeting some interesting people along the way, loving the neighbors, and believing in the power of beauty and hope.
