The GMG Conference Organizing Team (COT) decided to name its annual
Above and Beyond Conference Volunteer award after
Nancy Lindley in honor of her years of contributions to the GMG conference
including her highly professional presentations, outstanding selection of
plants suitable for Michigan and eagerness to promote the conference among
contacts at farmers markets and Great Lakes Roses (
greatlakesroses.com reference for winter hardy modern and
antique roses).
MGAWC members are grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with someone
with Nancy’s accomplishments as the author of
Roses for Michigan, a columnist for the Michigan
Gardener and co-owner of Great Lakes Roses, which offers a series of high
quality educational programs. For many, gardening is most closely
identified with roses; for Michigan gardeners, Nancy’s educational efforts
and readily available hardy plants caused them to reconsider growing roses.
Her work over the years reflects the same goal as MGAWC community outreach
events: setting gardeners up for success.
Always a hard worker and a class act, Nancy provided an excellent keynote at
this year’s conference. She invited people to keep in touch through her new
web site,
www.nancyandroger.com. We wish Nancy and Roger a wonderful
experience as they move toward a new phase of life in Thailand.
